I know approximately where you are but your details are unknown to me. I can read the newsletter with its gains and losses, birthday wishes and events disclosed. Still, I understand little about you in this moment. My summer hope for you is to experience independence. All the while I dream of you, in color.

I hoped for a calm, perfect moment. I imagined the four of us together, bathed in light and laughter, unhurried. But the list of spring obligations was relentless. We were carried furiously to the end of June. There were long, hard hugs. Scattered kisses. They smiled and waved. That was all.

Green Light

Surrounded by the kids in my neighborhood is a wondrous place to be. They've known one another for years – their connections run deep. I see them from all angles yet it's impossible to know who they'll become. I sit stunned, idle. They grow.
